HOUSTON, Tex. – The country’s 50 best master-planned communities selected by “Where to Retire” magazine include Cresswind at Lake Lanier.

The Gainesville development is one of five in Georgia that made the list.

The magazine says this year’s list highlights a “resurgent era in active-adult and master-planned living – in demand now more than ever, with the boost in the economy and the continuing coming of age of baby boomers.”

The list is the only one of its kind, focusing on communities rather than locales and featuring first person testimonials by current residents. Where to Retire reveals “The Short List: 50 Best Master-Planned Communities in the United States,” in the July/August issue, on newsstands June 18.

The magazine says the selections in 17 states won their place in the top 50 by breaking new ground with amenities such as a 3.5-acre fishing lake and scenic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains at Soleil Laurel Canyon in Canton, Georgia; an arts center to display residents’ work at Robson Ranch in Eloy, Arizona; and gourmet cooking classes at a state-of-the-art demonstration kitchen at Cresswind at Lake Lanier, to mention a few. Others offer workplaces inside the gates, dog parks and community gardens – options far beyond the traditional golf courses and swimming pools. Living in the chosen communities offers numerous benefits, says Where to Retire Publisher Karen Northridge.

The other three Georgia communities making the list are Riverwood Plantation in Evans, Sun City Peachtree by Del Webb in Griffin, and, the Georgia Club in Statham.
